Coed Steep Skiing Camp in Telluride and Silverton, Colorado
Steep Skiing Camps, also offered at Alta, are designed to help advanced and expert skiers who have the ability to ski challenging terrain, but lack the confidence to take it to the next level. The 4-day camp provides a safe and controlled environment to work on techniques and skills that build confidence to take on bigger terrain. In addition to solid skiing techniques, the camp will cover mountain awareness recognizing hazards, snow safety, self arrest, hiking with skis and packs, traversing, cornice management, reading terrain and much more.
Some of the best skiing in the world is where most skiers don’t go. Often times, all it takes is an extra traverse or short hike to find the untracked, but requires strong skills to be safe. Kim has the knowledge and experience of big mountain skiing to help take your skiing to the next level on steeper slopes, in narrow chutes, tight trees and deep powder, all features abundantly found at Tellluride and Silverton.
Both Telluride and Silverton are located in the San Juan Mountains of Southwest Colorado, tucked among the highest concentrations of 13,000 and 14,000-foot peaks in North America. Both locations offer unmatched scenic beauty, next to no lift lines and some of the most advanced terrain in Colorado.
Beginning with three days in Telluride, the camp will experience terrain progression suitable for different comfort levels building technique and confidence for the more challenging slopes of Silverton. The guided skiing and snowboarding at Silverton is similar to heli-skiing, snow-cat skiing, and resort skiing, but really unlike anything else in the country.
To keep the group moving and get valuable information throughout the camp, space is limited to 12 guests, shared among Kim, another coach and two patrollers to ensure individual attention and improvement.
