In February we head up north to one of the most popular ski resorts in the country, Steamboat, Colorado. Incorporated in 1900 Steamboat was one of the largest exporters of cattle in the Western United States. This rich history makes Steamboat a delight to visit; Exceptional skiing and a true western town community.
Steamboat’s extensive terrain allows you to work on your technique and confidence improving at your own pace. Background:
The City of Steamboat Springs is home to world-class skiing, and a vibrant western culture – all surrounded by some of the most beautiful mountain scenery in the world. Known for its Champagne powder, Steamboat Resort averages an annual snowfall of over 300 inches. With a base elevation of 6,900 feet, Steamboat’s vertical rise of 3,668 feet offers a diversity of trails for all levels of ability including a complete mountain range comprised of 4 peaks covering 2,965 acres of terrain.
Steamboat Springs has nearly 250 shops and boutiques including art galleries, western outfitters, outdoor retailers and gift shops for every inclination. Two primary pedestrian-friendly shopping areas include Steamboat’s Mountain Village located at the base of the Steamboat Ski Area and downtown Steamboat Springs. Getting around Steamboat is easy with a comprehensive system of FREE transportation between the ski area, downtown and most lodging locations.
Getting there:
Steamboat, located in northwest Colorado, 160 miles northwest of Denver, is an easy three-hour drive from DIA. Steamboat is accessible by non-stop air service from seven major U.S. airports on American, Continental, Delta, Frontier and United Airlines in addition to connecting service from over 230 other domestic and international cities. With recent expansion and improvements at the Steamboat/Hayden Airport (HDN) Steamboat is the most conveniently accessed ski resort in Colorado.
